Ashlin got a new shorter haircut. We made a family compromise, he wanted a mohawk, we wanted his curls. Sorry its been so long since we posted. Now here it is June and Ashlin is almost done with his first year of Kindergarten.

This week I got the good news that I won another Maine Press Association award at the paper. This time I got a 2nd place award for an ad that I did for our papers. The last time I won 3rd place for an ad and 3rd place for our Web site. Our editor won a 1st and 3rd place award for editorials. You can see the write-up on the MPA Web site here.
Ashlin got back his school pictures today. They came out really well. We should be sending out copies in the next week.

NOTE: Please don’t reproduce this photo. It is copyrighted and I will be sending out copies to all intended parties.
Ashlin is participating in the Rec. Board K-2 soccer program. They meet every Sunday for about five weeks. Today was the first practice. Here are some pictures.

Ashlin has been adjusting well to school. Aside from some morning grumpies and a few small incidents on the bus with a troublesome child (who is not allowed to sit with Ash any more), Ashlin has really enjoyed going to school. He is always very happy to get on the bus and tells us about all the fun things he does.
Since he’s been in school he has been testing the boundaries of independance at home which has been a little of a trial for us, but we appear to be through the worst of that (though the I’m not going to listen to what you are saying) has been creeping up a lot. I’m sure I said the same thing to my parents many times, so I’m not too worried.
Otherwise, things have been very busy. I have had a lot of work to do on the comic and Heather is at the really busy part of the year for her work, before the volume dies down and after the other bartender leaves. Hopefully things will stabilize in the next few weeks.

Well, it finally happened. Ash is in honest-to-goodness school now. We drove him in for Transition Day yesterday (kind of a “moving up day”), and all was well. No one cried! We were very proud of ourselves. He had many things to say about his first day of school, and hopefully we’ll get him to make a post about it. The classroom is a big open space between two rooms, and the two teachers do cooperative work with both classes most of the day, except for specials. Ash knows a bunch of the kids in his class from Headstart, The Kid’s Place, and playgroups from long ago, and seems very at ease with the whole thing. Oh, and he has an X-Men backpack, and a lunchbox in the shape of a racecar.–Mumma
My sister, Meghan, braved the friendly skies to visit us in August! It was the first time she’d come out to Maine all by her lonesome, and I was psyched to get the time to hang out with her. Highlights of the week included but were not limited to: margaritas and buffalo wings, artistic endeavors, watching the whole series of Kindom Hospital, and pretty much everything else that happened while she was here. We totally look forward to our November trip out to see Auntie Meega, Granpa Day, and Van.
Ashlin’s famous, well not really, but his picture is up on the local book store’s Web site. You can check it out here at Mr. York’s Book Shoppe. We are regulars at the books store. It opened this year and is one of the few places open after six around us.
